Obituary for Joan A. Wawiernia

Joan A. (Rose) Wawiernia, 68, of Webster and formerly of Auburn, died from a brief illness on Sunday December 22, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, Joan was one of two daughters born to the late Richard R. and Barbara A. (Erickson) Rose. She graduated from Auburn High School and later received an Associate’s degree in Human Services from Quinsigamond Community College. Joan later worked for over 15 years at UMass Memorial Medical Center as Manager of Telecommunications. She also worked at Small Business Service Bureau in Worcester, MA.

Joan was married over 25 years to her late husband, Alfred F. Wawiernia, Jr. the pair settled in Charlton on Prindle Pond to raise their family.

Joan is survived by her two daughters, Jill M. Napieralski and her husband Paul of North Oxford, and Kelly B. Couture and her husband David of Pelham, NH; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Ava, and Patrick; a sister, Robyn E. Klimas and her husband Vinnie of Holland; and several loving and very close cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Joan had an in-depth knowledge and loved discussing both local and world politics. She was a devoted New England Patriots and Bruins fan as she loved watching sports games at home alongside her family. She enjoyed golfing when she was younger and had lived on Cape Cod, in Centerville, after she retired. Joan loved her grandchildren most of all, finding joy in the time she shared with them.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joan’s family between 9:30 and 11:30 AM on Saturday December 28, 2019 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn, MA, with a prayer Service to follow at 11:30 AM. Burial will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michael’s School, 21 6th St., Lowell, MA
