Obituary for Robert "Bob" Liskiewicz

Robert S. “Bob” Liskiewicz, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 29, 2019.
He was born in Norwich, CT on July 23, 1931 a son to Sigmund Liskiewicz and Bernadette (Cote) Liskiewicz. Bob grew up in Norwich, CT, and graduated from the Norwich Free Academy. He attended the Connecticut State Technical College and the University of New Mexico.

On September 15, 1951 he married Lorraine Zigaro who recently died on December 4, 2019 and they celebrated their 68th Wedding anniversary this year.

When the Korean war began, he enlisted in the Air Force for a 4-year tour. He served 1 year in Korea and served as a meteorologist. He was awarded The United Nations Service Medal, The Korean Service Medal, The National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

After his military service he was employed for 37 years by the Southern New England Telephone Company. He worked as a telephone cable splicer, foreman and ultimately retired as Manager of the Middletown CT Central Control Center. One of his major assignments was coordinating and managing the conversion of mechanical step by step switching systems to electronic systems in the central offices.

He is predeceased by his loving wife, Lorraine who was his best friend and soul mate. He is survived by his son Robert Stephen Liskiewicz and his wife Pamela of Hudson, Ohio, a daughter Dr. Maureen Wassef and her husband Dr. Wahid Wassef of Shrewsbury MA, a grandson Stephen Liskiewicz of Marina Del Rey, California, a granddaughter Stephanie Liskiewicz of West Hollywood, California, a grandson Dr. David Wassef of Albuquerque. New Mexico and a granddaughter Meghan Wassef who is attending medical school in Alabama.

During retirement Bob and Lorraine enjoyed traveling to various destinations including many parts of the United States, Canada, Bermuda, and several Caribbean islands. Their greatest pleasures were the times that they spent with their family.

Bob was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Church in Shrewsbury. He belonged to the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Southern New England Telephone Retiree Association, the Shrewsbury Men’s Club. He served on the landscape committee, The communication committee and board of directors for the Village of Orchard Meadows.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob’s family on Saturday January 18, 2019 from 9:00-10:30 am at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St, Shrewsbury followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 am at Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main St, Shrewsbury. Burial with military honors will take place in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
