Obituary for Barbara A. Rand
Barbara A. Rand, 71, of Auburn, died peacefully at home on Saturday January 25, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, Barbara was one of five children born to the late George H. and Virginia E. (Baxter) Rand. Educated in Auburn, she was a 1966 graduate of Auburn High School. Barbara worked for Leonard David Advertising in Worcester, in charge of PR/Marketing for many years. Later on, she attended Salter’s Secretarial school and went on to work for OmniCare Inc., as billing coordinator.
In her free time, Barbara enjoyed reading, flower gardening, the ocean, and bingo. She especially enjoyed summers spent on the beaches of Maine and the Cape with her family, as well as many trips to Disneyworld with her daughter, sisters, nieces and nephews, and most especially, her grandchildren. She was also an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Kerry M. Markvenas and her husband Anthony of Auburn; her grandchildren, Jessica A. Hallene of Providence, RI, Jennifer L. Hallene of Worcester, Sgt. Andrew F. Markvenas, Kayley Markvenas, and Taylor Markvenas, all of Auburn; her siblings, William D. Rand and his wife Cynthia of Jefferson, Janet E. Iocco and her husband Allen of Auburn, Patricia Armitage of Hubbardston, and Ginny M. Sanborn-Conroy and her husband Craig of Worcester; two aunts, an uncle, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barbara was predeceased by her parents.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Barbara’s family between 4:00 and 7:00 PM on Tuesday January 28, 2020 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn, MA. Her prayer service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday January 29, 2020 at the funeral home, followed by burial at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to UMASS Memorial Cancer Center via donate.umassmemorial.org
