Obituary for David E. Kentley Sr.
David E. Kentley, Sr, 77, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Wednesday June 3, 2020.
David was born on May 14, 1943 in Allston, Massachusetts to Bertha (O’Brien) and Francis Kentley. He grew up Roslindale with his 5 siblings and graduated from Hyde Park Vocational in 1961. Upon graduation, he entered the Navy reserve and was subsequently deployed on the USS Lloyd Thomas during the Bay of Pigs Invasion. After an honorable discharge from active duty Navy, he returned home to Roslindale, where he met the woman who would be his wife for 30 years. They had 4 children together and although the marriage didn’t last, their friendship did.
He worked for Polaroid corporation for 14 years then taught electronics at Waltham Vocational High School. He ran his own computer repair shop for a number of years before retiring and moving to Puerto Rico, where he could enjoy the sunshine, fishing, and meeting many new friends while learning the language. After Hurricane Maria, in 2017, at the behest of his children he moved back to Massachusetts and resided with his eldest daughter, Donna, until his death.
There he found the company of his new love, Lady, his loyal blue heeler dog who never left his side.
He could always be found either tinkering on computers, watching some of his favorite documentaries or Doctor Who.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his former wife (an ex but always a friend) Katherine Quinn (of West Roxbury); sons, David Jr. and his wife Dorothy (of Dedham), Daniel (of Leominster); his daughters, Donna (of Auburn), Deb Kempskie and her husband Richard (of Auburn). He leaves 5 grandchildren: Cassandra Madden (of Dedham), Joe Kentley (of Dedham), Ryan and Sarah Kempskie (of Auburn), and Olivia Kentley Freeman (of Auburn).
He leaves behind his siblings James and his wife Tina (of Florence, KY), Francis and his wife Ruth (of Billerica, MA), George and his wife Kathy (of Ipswich, MA), Mary and her husband Robert Field (of Milton, MA), Claire and her husband Steve (of Dorchester, MA). He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
A private prayer Service will be held for his family at the funeral home, followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery in Auburn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter, 111 Young Road, P.O. Box 136, East Brookfield, MA 01515 (www.secondchanceanimals.org).
