Joseph M. “Joe” Hamel, 49, of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 20, 2021.

He leaves his mother, Janice C. (Petroski) Hamel; his wife, Dawn (Scales) Hamel; his children, whom he adored, Joseph M. Hamel, III and his fiancée Amanda Michaels, and Olivia L. Hamel; his sisters, Barbara J. Ruzzoli, and Allison R. Dahlquist and her husband Michael; his nieces and nephews: Krystal, Matthew, Katheryn, Elizabeth, Laura, Michael, and Samuel; and great-nieces, Nissa, Lilly, and Riley. Joe was predeceased by his father, Joseph M. Hamel, Sr.

Joe was born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, he graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. degree in Engineering. He worked as a design engineer for many years, and most recently was employed by NB&C.

He enjoyed fishing and watching environmental documentaries and nature shows, but most especially loved spending cherished moments with his family and children.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that any memorial donations be made to water.org, doctorswithoutborders.org, or any other humanitarian charity of one’s choosing.

Due to the current pandemic, burial will be held privately at a later date. The Britton-Wallace Funeral Home is honored to be assisting in arrangements.
