Obituary for Catherine C. Petty

Catherine C. (Donoghue) Petty, of Cherry Valley, and most recently of Worcester, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Charlton Manor Rest Home.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John J. Petty, who passed in 1980; along with her sisters, Margaret R. Donoghue, who passed in 1989, and Mary T. Bradshaw, with whom she shared a room at Charlton Manor, who passed just last week, on February 25, 2023.

Catherine leaves her devoted children, John J. “Jack” Petty, Jr., and his wife Laurel, of Uxbridge, and Mary C. Hoey and her husband Rob, of Auburn; grandchildren: John J. Petty, III and his wife Megan, Rebecca A. Petty-Alvarez and her husband Horus, Megan K. Petty, Patrick J. Hoey, Sean R. Hoey, and Catherine M. Hoey; great-grandchildren: Kesara, Claire, Liam, and McKenna; her brothers, Thomas F. Donoghue and his wife Kay, and Michael J. Donoghue and his wife Maureen, both of Worcester; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Catherine was born in Worcester, to the late Thomas F. and Mary T. (Coffey) Donoghue. She was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School in Worcester. In her younger years, Catherine worked at Jordan Marsh and Crompton & Knowles, prior to her extensive career as a Clerk in the Worcester Courts, specifically probate court. She retired after 24 years of dedicated service at the ripe old age of 80, 2 months after her son retired.

While living in Cherry Valley, Catherine was a faithful member of St. Joseph – St. Pius X Church, and became a member of Our Lady of the Angels when she eventually moved to Worcester. She was a woman of great faith, and was proud of her Irish heritage.

Catherine enjoyed line-dancing, traveling with friends, and most especially, spending time with her beloved family. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live on.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Petty family between 4 – 7 PM on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn, MA. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive, Auburn, with burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
